Why Aqua Detox Is Controversial, And What You Should Be Using Instead
An aqua detox is a process of detoxifying the body using water bath with salt and a mild electric current. It's believed that the mild electric current in salt solution is able to draw out the toxins from our body through the feet, resulting in a cleansed and purified body. Opinions on this detox treatment are hotly debated.
After a few minutes, the water will become brown in color. Hence, it's believed as an evidence that toxins are being purged from the body. However, many people argue that the brown color is actually the reaction of an electric current with the salt in the water.
Of course, the scientific community is quick to call this detox treatment a deception. But many times, the scientific community is all too quick to reject something which later on turns out to be genuine. A good example of this is the lemon detox treatment, which is now an accepted way of detoxifying the body.
However, some scientific tests for aqua detox have been conducted, using electrodes in the salt solution, both with and without human feet. The result of the tests showed that the water turned brown due to electrolysis, with or without human feet in the water. That's why this treatment is still hotly debated. As of now, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not tested the device. It is marketed with disclaimers, as it has no official approval.
On-going research is still carried out by the proponent of aqua detox. In my opinon, it's not worth the money to try this detox treatment at this point in time unless you don't mind paying for this expensive foot bath or foot spa. Also, there are many other forms of detox treatment that are proven to be more effective.
Despite all the controversy, some clinics actually charge money for aqua detox treatment. Therefore, there are people who believe in water detox treatment.
Water detox may yet turn out to be a valid method for cleansing the body, but as of now it's lack of scientific evidence. There are cheaper and more natural options available to you. For example, buying a carton of fruit juice from the local supermarket, and drinking that for a day can prove to be effective.
When it comes to body detox, other important considerations are your diet and overall lifestyle. Spend some time learning about the effects of food on the body, and formulate an individual program based on your own needs. This will be a better solution in the long run than an aqua detox.
